This shoot was so much fun! Sometimes I watch Mad Men reruns, just because I am so inspired by  the outfits, especially Christina Hendricks character Joan. Not to mention, I love to mix vintage and contemporary pieces, and when I found this gorgeous green 60’s dress, it was a sign. It was so much fun to do these throwback looks all the way down to the make-up and hair-do’s. The cat eye has been making a huge comeback in make-up trends, but can we please bring back the 60’s mod cat eye? I’m obsessed!

Dresses have continued to be my go to throughout this summer. They are so easy to accessorize, put on, and run out the door. For these looks, I really wanted to play with primary colors and neutrals. Neutral colors are something I normally don’t gravitate towards, because they wash me out. However, I couldn’t bypass this lovely BCBG dress and its incredibly fun print and neck line.  What are some of your favorite 60’s trends happening right now?

Tropical in Texas

The weather in Austin has been reaching the 100’s recently, and oh what I wouldn’t do for a day on the boat! I’m originally from Florida, and used to having a beach within 30 miles of my house. Nonetheless, I love to sport some resort wear. Even though I’m missing the beach, this outfit makes me feel right at home: tropical florals, alligator accents, and the pastel and neon remind me of the Art Deco District in Miami. One of my favorite things about this outfit is that it breathes. There is nothing worse than taking the time to put together an amazing outfit to go out: you arrive at your destination, get out of the car, and then your outfit is sticking to you like a band-aid. The light fabrics of both the blouse and shorts are very breathable, which makes going somewhere in style that much more comfortable.

RYB, do I have to choose one?

It was such a gorgeous view on the Pfluger bridge looking out over the city and the beautiful lake. I got to walk around and explore ZACH’s Topper Theatre, which was amazing. As you may know by now, I am not the type to shy away from color or bold prints, so this look was extra fun to play around town in. There are so many approaches to style this awesome 3.1 Phillip Lim sweatshirt, but for this one I went back to my roots. When I was younger I attended private school. Every morning I would wake up and get dressed in the same variations of plaid and primary colors. I think a big part of my style still stems from those early years. I would think, how can I incorporate my Lizzie McGuire butterfly clips, put some extra color and fun into this uniform? This outfit is definitely an example of my womanhood embracing my girlhood, and what is more fun than that?

Today I went exploring some of good ol’ Texas, and what more is Texas known for then it’s ranches. Being a Florida girl, this was an exciting adventure for me. I toted along my little Olympus XA, and since it’s a tiny camera it was able to fit into this adorable little camera purse. I love attention to detail, and it is no suprise that this Marc by Marc blouse had me at hello. I’m obsessed with the small peter pan collar and the overly big ruffles for the sleeves–it reminds me of something Blair Waldorf would wear. Now off to enjoy the sunset!

V-Neck Tee: Madewell
Blouse: JOE’S Jeans
Necklace: Local Boutique
Leggings: Nike
Shoes: Target

This morning I finally made the trek out to Hamilton Pool, and I’m so glad I did. It was a gorgeous view out there, and it was great to go and see something besides the computer screen. For this day outing I wanted to wear something easy and light. If you don’t already own a Madewell V-Neck pocket tee, I encourage you to invest in the colors of the rainbow. They are effortlessly cool, and can easily be dressed up or down. I paired it with a JOE’S silk yellow and blue blouse to exercise my primary colors. I even added a little ship telegraph necklace to embrace the adventure. Most of all, I styled for this little road trip with the idea that comfort is key. I think a lot of people think that when they go out for a hike or car trip that fashion can’t be comfortable, and I’m here to tell you that it can be! If you want more styled outdoor inspiration just look at the overwhelming amount of google images for Japanese “Mori girls” and “Yama girls.” What about you, do you style yourself before a new adventure?

Florals? For spring? Ground breaking.

Top: Peter Pilotto for Target
Skirt: Target
Headband/Tights: American Apparel
Shoes/Purse: thrifted
Belt: vintage
Earrings: Kendra Scott

This was such a fun look to shoot, not only that but it was also warmer out today. I know, warm in Texas…sounds like I’m making this up, but last week it was so cold it snowed (or iced for you northerners). I was ecstatic for the Peter Pilotto line for Target to launch. I am thrilled by the amazing duo’s eye for prints and textiles. When the line launched, I knew this top and the skirt counterpart had to become a part of my wardrobe. This outfit is definitely a contender for being stylish on a budget. I have to say that my favorite part about this blouse, besides the print, is the extraordinary sleeves. They are so delicate and feminine against the faux leather skirt and masculine brogues. As spring approaches I am giddy with excitement. The transition from heavy boots to free floating maxi’s, jumpsuits, and anything above the knee is too much to hope for.
